New Room Ideas

Ok, we bought a new house in Churchland Green. It's much closer to the boy's house, which will be nice because he won't have to drive so far to pick me up :)

I'm thinking of ways to decorate my new room so I will use this as a way to pin up random things I've seen in Melbourne to help complement my pre-existing ideas (yes, I'm in MAAAAALBERN).

I like this hook with the owl- it's so widdley (as Justine would say).

There are so many op shops here- every one is just all over vintage, the different and the unusual.
I'd like to get a big poster of the eiffel tower to put in my room, maybe as you see it going into the room. Though I feel that the words are too big and annoying here as they cover the monument.
The metal plaque below is better...

In the hallway leading to the three upstairs bedrooms, I want to have lots of frames like shown. Or maybe on the staircase.
It would be really good to have something like below because I'm always forgetting my stuff! I don't think mum would really like it though...
And finally, so Melbourne....

UVM info

http://www.unigo.com/university_of_vermont/summary
"Burlington is one of the best things about UVM, which I didn't actually realize until I moved off campus. With a strong underground arts movement, activist groups, etc. there is plenty to become involved with off campus. Living among mostly students is also great, as well as skiing in the winter and the lake in the summer, especially biking in the summer, around town. Williams Hall, the art building is where most of my time is spent, a majestic old building with a great faculty, I also spend a lot of time at the library. UVM is a good size, although I wouldn't want to see it get any larger. There doesn't appear to be much school pride, which I like. Also not having a football team is nice, sets us apart from the other big state schools. The Naked Bike Ride, at midnight on the last day of classes, is certainly one experience that I will take away with me, a great UVM tradition in which hundreds of students cycle around campus. fantastic."

"
And too many things could not be said about Burlington. It has everything you need form a beautiful waterfront, movies, skiing 45 minutes away, bars, restaurants and nice people (granted you don't wake them up at 3 am coming home from a party)."

"
The biggest group on campus is the Ski and Snowboard club. I would have to say that almost everyone who ski's or snowboards on campus is part of the group (but not me for some reason). Living in the dorms is a great experience. Wether you live in the brand new University Hights suits, or in the old 1970's central campus dorms, you will leave swearing yours was the best floor ever."

"
The best thing about UVM might be the location, you've got lake champlain to one side with a view of the adarondaks, and then you've got the Green Mtns to the other side. You can get to the mountains for hikes (free) or skiing ($$$$$$) in 30 min, or just go down to the bike trail to the lake where everyone and thier golden retriever are out exercising. The "City" is not bad, small with some great college bars that not too many normal people go to because the college students and recent alum dominate the scene. Some good restaurants, a posh grocery store...nice things and lots of organic food and recycling goes down. Very earth-conscious.
The school is just the right size, you always are meeting new people, but don't feel lost, even as a freshman. The professors have time for you, and really do mean it about visiting in their office hours, so definately take advantage of that."

"The most popular activities and groups at UVM are the Outing Club and the Ski and Snowboarding Club. UVM is really active and most people like to hike, participate in club sports, and ski a lot! Students participate a lot in sports and regularly attend the hockey and basketball games. I cannot talk much about the theater department because I am not really involved in that part of the school, but I know that my friends who are in it love it. School-wide traditions like the Naked Bike Race, and broom ball have a wide-range of participants, and most people meet each other through extra-curricular clubs like the Running Club, the Alpine Ski Club, etc. Because UVM is in Burlington, there is also lots to do off campus from yoga, sailing, to working in coffee shops, etc. Usually, in the winter, I ski on the weekends, and use the week to finish homework, intern, and work, but there is lots to do if you have the time."

"
The best thing about UVM is the natural environment around the area. With 5 ski areas within an hour's drive from campus, it's easy to see why we attract outdoor enthusiasts. It's also an unbelieveable gift to be able to look east from campus and see Mt Mansfield and Camels Hump, both capped in snow. Then you look west and watch the sunset over lake Champlain...awesome."

Average Room and Board (view room/board rates) $9,738Estimated Books & Supplies*     $1,200Comprehensive Student Fee $1,894

"
"Compared to other schools, UVM has a lot of options when it comes to dining. I appreciate the effort to make more vegan and vegetarian choices, however I find myself losing my appetite at times as soon as I walk into a dining hall. Also, I love the fact that waste is sorted from trash, recyclables and compost. Being environmentally friendly in all aspects of campus life is a great part of UVM!"
"I live on Athletic Campus, which has the Harris/Millis dining hall, also known as The View, but most well known as The Grundle. I personally try to avoid the Grundle as much as possible. Instead, I go the Marche, which is my favorite place to eat. They have better food and the dining atmosphere is cozier."
"The food is definitely good at UVM. There are a lot of options and of course it isn't anything like a home-cooked meal, but better than a lot of other campuses. My favorite place is probably Marche or Simpson."
"There are soo many places to eat at UVM that I never get sick of the choices, nor do I have to worry about eating the same thing every day.  There are also many local places downtown and around Burlington that are within walking distance or offer delivery."

Improvement

Went for a run today to the Cott groyne and back, although because my DOG couldn't keep up: it was mainly just a long walk there and back.

I slept for 10 hours and 20 minutes last night! So crazy. I guess I have a huge sleep debt.

Feeling really good about the study thing. I've admittedly been doing half-days of homework when I could have been doing more. Then again, I have two weeks before my exams.

I'm turning 21 next week as well. Insane.

Feeling sore from run, so shower soon.

Can't wait to see the boy again, he's busy coding some project (a fifth one) until Wednesday. I feel happy about us.

Fish and Chips for dinner!

I've nearly done all structural assignments except for week 4 and 12 (and I need to actually learn how to do 13).

Steel, I steeeeeellll need to ask questions about.

Must ring up again about driving lessons. Such a pain that they didn't ring me back.

I need to do steel examples from the 70 dollar book I bought for it.

Sigh....I wonder if he hates me? Who cares, not really all that important. I've bigger fish to fry.

Writing stupid french essay: What purpose does literature serve? (1000 words). Not really I topic that you can do shortly. I'm pretty sure that people would have done PhDs on the subject.

I really, really want to go the University of Vermont... You can ski, and go to Montreal in less than 2 hours by car, they have insanely good extra-curricular programs and the campus is prettttttyyyyy. Plus hot americans! What more could you want? Mountains. Tons of mountains.

Apparently it gets really cold though but pffft. It's amazing and insane.

Also really expensive. I would need to save up heaps to be able to afford to even stay there let alone food money and travel money and extra clothes, extra spending money.

Golden Afternoons were not meant for me.

To no-one.
If I'm not happy, I'll die.
IFF you love me, I'll swim and not sink.
If I can't sleep, I'll slaughter the sheep,
that lie mockingly upon the lattice.

If I do not speak,
Do I disappear?
If I do not sleep,
I disappear.
Holes, holes, holes, holes, holes, but in me appear.

Others lie on a golden lawn, enjoying a happiness not meant for me.
Away from me.
Out of reach, behind a glass.

They sip their gilded beer,
beery
bronzey.
They sip it quicker yet and then sink beneath the haze of their own oblivion.
And yet I sit alone, apart from them, as if some stain has marked me out as not being one of them. As if I could not be happy even if I tried.
Golden Afternoons were not meant for me.
